Private Plant Medicine Retreats in Peru for Black and Brown Folks
Evvie Lionheart is collaborating and brainstorming, to organize and facilitate a transformative plant medicine retreat exclusively for Black and Brown individuals. Guided by the expertise of s trusted Shipibo Ayahuascera and her team, these retreats provide a sacred space to heal ancestral trauma and receive intensive support for chronic illness through ancestral plant medicines and holistic integration.
UPDATE: Due to a scheduling conflict with Marosa Center, Evvie is pursuing organizing this retreat at another highly regarded center with a female shaman.
These retreats are specifically designed for Black and Brown comrades who are radically committed to:
Healing ancestral trauma: Releasing the intergenerational wounds passed down through colonialism and systemic oppression.
Reconnecting with ancestral wisdom: Strengthening ties to lineage, culture, and the resilience of those who came before us.
Chronic illness management: Exploring plant medicines as part of a holistic approach to managing and healing chronic conditions.
Why These Retreats?
"I want to connect more with my ancestors but don’t know how."
This is a sentiment Evvie has heard time and time again. Guided by their own profound journey with plant medicine and ancestral healing, Evvie invites you to embark on a transformative path of self-discovery and connection. Together, we will build community, nurture intergenerational healing, and reconnect with practices that honor ancestral traditions.
During time in Peru in 2023, Evvie experienced firsthand the profound power of working with ancestral trauma and chronic illness using Amazonian master plants. This collaboration with Marosa Healing Center stems from their vision of creating safe, intentional spaces for Black and Brown people to explore these healing modalities together.

Together, let’s reclaim our ancestral wisdom and co-create spaces of radical healing and resilience.
Envision a sacred space steeped in reverence and tradition. This is Evvie’s inaugural ancestral altar, meticulously assembled for a seven-day ancestral ritual in 2017. The altar is draped in a tapestry of multicolored scarves, each hue whispering stories of heritage and continuity. At its center, a solitary white candle burns steadily, a luminous tribute to the past. Beside it, a clear bowl of water reflects the candle’s glow, symbolizing purity and the flow of life. Scattered delicately across this vibrant tableau are small papers bearing the honored names of Evvie’s genetic ancestors, their legacies interwoven with bundles of aromatic sage, an array of healing crystals, bowls brimming with sweets to delight the spirits, and the tranquil smoke of burning incense, carrying prayers and memories aloft. This altar is not just a visual spectacle; it is a bridge to history, a testament to Evvie’s deep connection with the roots that ground and nourish their spirit.
Before you is a serene tableau set upon a grey table, Evvie's recent Winter Solstice Altar. Orange tarot cards are fanned out across the front, inviting curiosity and mystique. Three white candles stand tall, their flames a silent dance of light. On the right, a white poinsettia adds a touch of elegance, while its red counterpart on the left brings a vibrant contrast. Amidst this arrangement lies a bowl with fresh orange, bay leaves, and tea, next to which rests a bottle of Murray & Lanman’s Florida Water, its contents promising refreshment. A solitary $50 bill lies casually under a glass of rich, red wine, suggesting a moment of indulgence. At the heart of the table, precious stones—aqua turquoise, shadowy smoky quartz, and deep blue lapis lazuli—nestle around candles beside a lucky bamboo plant, their colors a harmonious blend with nature’s own palette.
