Peer Support for Cult Recovery

What’s Next : The Family Survival Trust (FST) Survivor and Family Member Support Groups

Since 2020, the virtual iteration of FST’s Support Group has offered a compassionate and reflective space for individuals impacted by cults and extremist groups. Through psycho-educational support, community discussion, and peer connection, this online group became a vital resource for former members, their loved ones, and the peer facilitators who held the support spaces with care. Facilitators brought trauma-informed insight to the group, especially centering the experiences of those resisting authoritarian and coercive control. Together, we explored the tactics used by high-control groups, developed tools for recovery, and created space for shared stories.

We are proud of the growth and connection that happened in that space. Sadly, due to decisions made by the board, an unexpected transition is underway. In the meantime the facilitators team invites you to our soft landing spot to stay connected with us, and share your experience.

To read Evvie’s personal narrative and their resignation letter as a facilitator it is available on their Reflections blog.
